Business Drivers

Spirent wanted a more flexible, cost-effective solution for file sharing. As its existing on-premises file servers and network shares was becoming too expensive. So Spirent Communications had sought answers in the Cloud. But after using a popular Enterprise File Sync and Share service for two years, Spirent’s IT department recently made a decision to move the entire organization into Microsoft’s Office 365 platform for storage, collaboration, and productivity.

The Challenge: Migrate to Office 365 OneDrive for Business

“Office 365 is a complete suite and provides an end-to-end solution from a productivity standpoint. It has all of the basic Office features but also provides us with online access from anywhere. Which we didn’t have when everything was running on-premises,” said Ryan Au, Senior Developer in IT at Spirent Communications. “Since OneDrive for Business is included in our Office 365 licenses, we decided to leave our initial Cloud storage service to save costs.”

In conclusion, Spirent needed the means to migrate to Office 365 from their previous cloud service. Including several hundred users and all of their content.

We had the specific requirement of retaining all versions of our users’ documents when moving the content and DryvIQ was the only solution that could address this need.

The Solution

Spirent tested two popular third-party Office 365 migration tools before discovering DryvIQ.

“We had the specific requirement of retaining all versions of our users’ documents when moving the content. And the two solutions we had tried first simply did not offer that functionality,” Au said. “DryvIQ was recommended by our original vendor as the only solution that could address this need.”

Au said that DryvIQ’s fully-automated Author Preservation/User Mapping feature was also a key factor in the Office 365 migration. Therefore enabling Spirent to effortlessly link and migrate content from all of their individual user accounts with a single job process. “The User Mapping feature made the migration extremely easy for us to complete,” Au said.

The Results

In short, Spirent was able to migrate more than 400 users from their previous EFSS service into Office 365s’ OneDrive for Business in one week using DryvIQ’s products.

“Our users have adapted well to using OneDrive as their primary cloud storage solution,” Au said. “Having everyone working in OneDrive and Office 365 is a vast improvement for us in terms of productivity. Not just due to the feature set but because of the quick access to all of our content in this new, integrated environment. It makes our lives a lot easier.”

Impeccable Professional Services

Au said that it wasn’t just DryvIQ’s unique technical capabilities that convinced him. What most importantly sold him on the product was the level of customer service he received from the DryvIQ Professional Services team.

“The support I got from DryvIQ was phenomenal. It blew away all expectations in terms of what DryvIQ was willing to do for us for this migration project,” Au said. “Overall it’s an excellent engagement. The tool and support staff are both exceptional.”
